Slimes are the main enemy in Slime Forest Adventure and the sole mechanism for teaching japanese. There are two major groups of slimes, Teaching Slimes and Testing Slimes. Within the Teaching Slimes group, there are sub-groups for each part of the Japanese language and each part of the learning process. The color of a Teaching Slime indicates the type of content it presents; the shape indicates its purpose.

Teaching Process[]

New material is presented in batches. Initially, large round "new" slimes attack with unknown material. Using spacebar twice allows Jenk to study the appropriate response. Once "new" slimes have been defeated, smaller review slimes will attack with the new material. After a few review slimes, a chance is then given to defeat the large rounded slime.

As part of the teaching strategy, a minimum amount of time must pass between repeated presentations of the same material. This is achieved by interlacing two or three new items at a time. If the small review slimes are defeated too quickly, filler review of past learned material will be presented. Once all of the large slimes have been defeated, the battle will end. In the next battle, some of the new material will return as reinforcement slimes, while others will not be seen until later battles. Once all the new material is considered to be sufficiently mastered for the time, a new batch of material will be given. Review battles are also given consisting of large Reinforcement Slimes and small review slimes. Only the large Reinforcement Slimes need to be defeated to end the battle. The small review slimes will run away. Testing slimes are used to prevent the progress of the story without learning. This requires that the material be learn to progress.

Testing Slimes[]

Testing Slimes are different from Teaching Slimes because they will not reveal their answers. They can be identified by their costumes or shapes and are normally found inside caves. Each Testing Slime type has a defined set of material covered. Different types of Testing Slimes will have different abilities. These abilities will determine what is needed or beneficial to fight them. Special Items, improved Clothes and increased character levels can help reduce the damage caused by Testing Slimes, which otherwise can be severe. Improvement of Weapons may also be necessary for attacks to be effective.
