The Apparatus begins as the Artifacts and is an item that Jenk collects from a chest while in the same cave in which he finds the Princess. After bringing her safely home, Jenk brings the mysterious Artifacts to the wise man in the southwest corner of the castle, who assembles it for him and suggests that Jenk test it out on his sailing vessel. Upon doing so, Jenk finds that the needle of the apparatus points the same direction regardless of his ship's orientation, similar in operation to a compass. The apparatus guides Jenk to Ytlin Island if he goes where it points, and it takes him to Catwald Island when he goes the opposite direction.
